Chandler Park, in
Burbank, California, is
the residential community between Mariposa Street and Clybourn Avenue,
east to west, and Burbank and Magnolia Boulevards, north
to south.

Burbank, an incorporated city within Los Angeles county,
is a prominent media and entertainment-oriented city with a small-town
feel. Adjacent to many studios and production companies, living
in the Chandler Park neighborhood enables many people to walk and
bike to work.
The defining element of our neighborhood is a bikeway
and pedestrian path within the former Chandler Boulevard railroad
right-of-way, running from Mariposa Street to the City border at
Clybourn Avenue.
The Chandler Boulevard Bikeway, constructed where the Burbank Branch
railroad used to run, was previously owned by the Southern Pacific
Transportation Company.
In 1991, the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission, now
the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), purchased the Burbank
Branch (Chandler Boulevard) railroad right-of-way from the Southern
Pacific Transportation Company. Burbank agreed to jointly purchase
the right-of-way with the MTA. Burbank's share of the two-mile segment
of the right-of-way is 41.1% and MTAs share is 58.9%. The
Chandler Boulevard Bikeway officially opened to the public at a
grand opening celebration on August 20, 2004.
ABOUT THIS WEBSITE
In February 2006, the residents living on and adjacent
to Chandler Boulevard fought against the idea of changing Chandler
Boulevard's unusual configuration twin two-way streets separated
by a bike path into two one-way streets. Read about this
on our Chandler Boulevard No One-way page.
During this time the "Keeping Chandler Park Safe" website
was created to document what was being published about the one-way
controversy. Also during this time, Robert Phipps (organizing the
No One-way cause) learned that, unlike Los Angeles, in Burbank there
are no rules or requirements for naming a residential area; the
people could just start calling our residential neighborhood "Chandler
Park." And that is what we did (see New Release below.)

BURBANK AREA NAMED FOR PARKWAY
As of Friday, March 17, 2006, the official name of the Burbank
residential area between Mariposa and Clybourn, east to west,
and Burbank and Magnolia Blvds, north to south, is "Chandler
Park," according to Robert Phipps, a 23-year resident of
the area, speaking for homeowners. "It is a very prestigious
area," Phipps said. "We have our own pathway, a long
park, where we can walk, jog, run, ride a bike or trike, rollerblade,
skateboard," he said. "We can push our infants in a
stroller, walk our dogs, walk with a metal walker, walk on crutches,
ride in a wheelchair or motorized cart, and so forth. It is a
very safe and desirable place in which to live and raise a family.
It is close in, yet "far away" he added.
Phipps, an attorney and real estate broker, asked Burbank Real
Estate Brokers to notify the agents in their office and at meetings,
of the new neighborhood birth, "and be sure to let all prospective
buyers know, on set-up sheets, websites, and other media, that
the home they are viewing is in Chandler Park, a very special
area indeed," he said.
When the Burbank City Council voted to no longer pursue changes
to Chandler, this website was converted to a community resource.
This website is for and about the community of Chandler Park in
Burbank, California. It was originally conceived, researched, developed
and created, and now published by Chandler Park resident, Ilayne
Lucas, Graphic
Artist/Web Designer.
